RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES
BOATING AND WATER SPORTS
Enjoy many water sports including boating, fishing, water
skiing, canoeing and rafting on our many lakes and rivers. For example, Irongate Lake, Copco Lake,
Greenhorn, Lake Siskiyou, Lake Shastina, Klamath River and Scott River.
BIRD WATCHING
The diverse conditions of the Shasta valley and all of Siskiyou County make this
area a home to numerous bird species.
BICYCLING
We offer uncrowded bike riding opportunities in our valleys, mountains and near the
rivers with picturesque scenery.
CAMPING
Siskiyou County is a camper’s heaven with numerous camping sites that fit everyone’s
needs.
CAR RACING
Enjoy local car racing from Mother’s day through September. The races are held on
Saturday evenings except during the fair. Contact the Chamber for specific dates and times.
EXPLORING
Visit the Pythian caves off of Cram Gulch Road as well as others that can be enjoyed on a dat trip.
FISHING
Whether you are an avid Fly Fishman or just enjoy dropping a line in on ocassion, you have many lakes and rivers such as, Irongate Lake, Copco Lake,
Greenhorn, Lake Siskiyou, Lake Shastina, Klamath River and Scott River to practice your craft.
GOLD PANNING
Try your hand at gold panning in one of our many rivers or streams. Maybe you too can “Strike it rich,” As so many pioneers did in the 1800’s.
GOLF
Try golfing at Lake Shastina, Shasta Valley golf resort and Mt.Shasta golf resort. Lake Shastina was originally designed as a professional course by Robert Trent Jones.
HIKING
Get a glimpse of the eagles, black bears, birds and many wild animals while hiking in the Marble mountains or Mt.Shasta. The Pacific Crest Trail winds its way through the Marbles.
HUNTING
Siskiyou County is a prime area for all types of hunting including but not limited to: deer, bear, elk, ducks, dove, pheasant, geese, quail, turkey and many more.
OFF-ROAD RIDING
We have areas that are legal for off road riding.
PICKNICKING
Have a picnic in the Miner Street or Greenhorn Park for an enjoyable experience. No matter how young or old you are the parks are a wonderful way to enjoy a spring day in Siskiyou County. We also have concerts in the Miner Street Park on Friday evenings during the summer. Check with the Chamber of Commerce for specific dates and times.
SNOW SKIING, BOARDING AND SNOWMOBILING
Siskiyou County is a wonderful area for winter sports. We have Mt.Shasta and Mt.Ashland which both have Ski and Board resorts approximately 45 minutes from Yreka. You can enjoy all your other Winter Sports in and around Mt. Shasta. There are many trails for snowmobiles starting at Deer Mountain park off of Hwy. 97
MOUNTAIN CLIMBING
Test your physical abilities climbing Mt.Shasta at just over 14,000 feet. Contact one of the local guides for more important information regarding the necessary precautions to take while climbing
Mt.Shasta.
